Any details on Smith? I thought he had been in New Orleans and so assumed nothing was moving on the clerkship front. Someone updated the FLCIS entry on July 16 saying he'd hired one, but nothing since then.
I've heard from a current Smith clerk that the announcement in 2:14 that Smith is done is false.
Garwood sent an email saying he is reviewing grads' applications but won't set up interviews until 3Ls start applying.

Does anyone know of an online site that shows past clerks for a judge?
If you can find past editions of the leadership directory, they're listed there.
A great way to locate past clerks is the following google search: "The Honorable XYZ" and "law clerk". This search will produce at least 50% - 60% of the Judge's past law clerks (depending on length of time on the bench) - just enough to give you an idea of his/her hiring tendencies

Confirmed. Southwick hired a Texas 3L today for the 08-09 term.

I think Judge Southwick must read this blog and is delaying just to see the comments and reactions.
I think it would be neat if he did read this. It's like an on-going suspense novel and he's the main character.

That's what I was told during my interview. Everyone would receive calls.
I hope he does do that. That's a much classier way of handling your affairs then just sending rejection letters to interviewees.

Any idea where Southwick ended up hiring from besides Texas and Mississippi College?

Southwick hired one from Virginia.
Judge Elrod is very deliberate in the manner in which she approaches things. I would expect her hiring practices to correspond to her approach to judicial adjudication. Hence, I expect she will wait until she has completed all her scheduled interviews, carefully consider each candidate once again, and make her final decisions. If my assumptions are correct, Elrod has not made any offers and will not until sometime late next week.
Does Southwick have his fourth clerk for '08 yet? So far, I count one UVA, one UT, and one Mississippi College.

I think that's admirable. Shows he's willing to look at people that may not have the perfect resume.
Plus he used to teach there so he probably knew the person.

12/14 - What makes a "perfect" resume? Harvard and Yale? Or might there be other accomplishments that might make someone a good clerk such as great writing abilities and work experience?

I haven't heard either way. If I understood her correctly she's waiting until Thursday or Friday. Frankly, I was surprised to learn she already hired one. As the poet said, "The waiting is the hardest part"; or is it "One day more." I'll stop now.

Applicant's Log. Circuit Date: 011108. We still await word from Judge Elrod. No calls. No e-mails. No letters. Many have lost record of their interview dates, being so long ago. Some have said an asnwer is coming "soon," but we know not what that means any more. Some say that ours is an epic wait; others say its unprecedented. Without recourse, our wait continues. Maybe today will be the day. Maybe, but probably not.
I enjoyed the Star Trek parody. On a practical note, I wonder if this means Judge Elrod is accepting applications again.
Just for useless knowledge, I have heard that Judge Boudin (1st Cir.) holds the all-time record for time between interviews and offers: 4 months back in the early 90s. By that comparison, Judge Elrod still has a long way to go.

A Chicago alum accepted a clerkship with Elrod today.
Clarification: the announcement of the acceptance just went out to the Chicago listserv. That doesn't necessarily mean the acceptance occurred today (although it is likely).

Elrod hired a Chicago 3L for 2009
So is Elrod done?
The Chicago clerkship e-mail list said that Elrod hired an alum (not a 3L as reported here). They have made mistakes in the past though, so I'll update if new information comes out.
I believe the Chicago 3L is the one referred to in the 3/6/08 9:57 posting, and that person is for 2009, not 2008.
For 2008-09, then, I think Judge Elrod has hired:
1. A Harvard 3L
2. A Chicago alum
3. An American alum ('07)

The above post is correct regarding the Chicago 3L being hired for 2009.
After three and a half long months of waiting, Judge Elrod is done hiring. Rejection letters have already begun to arrive. She has has one permanent clerk and thus hired only three term clerks.
Anyone hear if that Chicago hire was the only one she made for 2009?
