Gershon has a different hiring schedule than most judges - she has a position open for 01/08 but is not necessarily going to be interviewing now for the standard 08-09 term that begins next fall.

anyone hear anything from EDNY judges? I know many have filled up for 08-09 already, but the entire district seems strangely quiet compared to SDNY (for which most judges made all their calls on the 11th).

Can anyone else confirm the poster who said Sweet is done hiring? He mentioned that he planned to be interviewing at least into next week - did he cancel the remaining interviews? Has he notified those he has already interviewed but not selected?

3:32--Irizarry said not for a few weeks and Glasser didn't give me a time but his secretary said he's alawys "very late" in the process
I can confirm that Sweet is done hiring- he's notified the ones he is hiring, and I think he'll notify the others by mail.

Irizarry's chambers said they will begin reviewing applications from grads in a few weeks for one position opening up in March or April of '09.

No. I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has heard yet. He was supposed to be done interviewing today but don't recall when he said he would notify.

When I interviewed yesterday he said he'd be able to get back to me around 6:30, but then I never heard. Do you think rejections would be by letter?
8:14 - I had a similar experience. I assume rejections would go out by letter as I have only been rejected by district judges via letter so far.

Does anyone know what is going on with Judge Daniels? He listed on FLCIS that he was accepting applications via OSCAR, but when I spoke to his clerk, he said that he would only accept paper applications. Then, he listed the position as filled on FLCIS, and then reopened the listing. I am confused.

Not sure re: Daniels. I applied via paper, was interviewed some time ago, and was told he hoped to decide in a few weeks -- nothing definite. I haven't heard anything since.

I know that Block had an unexpected opening for fall '07 that he just filled. Has he also filled one of his two openings for fall '08?

From my understanding, Daniels no longer has a backlog, and hasn't since the year following the article.
In the article itself, Chief Judge Mukasey said the backlog had been largely addressed by that time.

Castel has definitely sent rejections (he sent them fairly quickly). If you had an interview two weeks ago and still haven't heard, that would be strange.

re 8:21 - I realize most judges don't send out rejections to applicants, but I'm referring to people who interviewed- I figure most or all judges do take the time to notify interviewees.
Sadly 11:56, from what Ive heard thats not true either. Some will send letters to their interviewees in about a month. I know I interviewed with some folks who never officially dinged me this year and have been done for weeks.
Remember, the theme here is "Judges Behaving Badly."

Yes, Judge Baer is hiring another clerk to start essentially immediately. You should send an application to his Chambers ASAP.
Anyone ever hear of someone clerking for a District Court, then moving on to a Court of Appeals, and then clerking for a Supreme? Wouldn't that be feasible?
Of course. If you scroll up & look in the SCOTUS Notification Blog, you'll see that there are a few of those people this year.
